5 HOUSTON NONPROFITS YOU’LL LOVE TO SUPPORT

    May 3, 2023 by admin

Now more than ever, non-profits are needing volunteers and or donations to help provide meals, resources and shelter for the local community. Here are 5 Houston non-profit organizations that I have supported throughout the years that offer great resources for our community of all ages. If you are able, please join me in helping our fellow Houstonians!

Houston Food Bank is a member of Feeding America and is a non-profit that receives meals and food items from local farmers, grocery stores and food drives. Their staff and volunteers are critical as they help inspect and distribute food items to many community centers and even churches which assist with providing meals to more than 800,000 people annually. During the COVID-19 crisis, The Houston Food Bank has partnered with Houston ISD to distribute meals to Houstonians in various locations throughout the city. The Houston Food Bank also offers great resources like job training and nutrition education. Any support helps. Even $1 can provide three meals!
Location: 535 Portwall St, Houston, TX 77029

Kids’ Meals, Inc is a non-profit that delivers meals to preschool-aged children who live in under-served communities. It is also the nation’s only home delivery service for preschool kids. You can help by volunteering and or donating any amount ($2 will feed a child). You can also get your family and friends to support by participating in the DIY Lunch Pack program where you can draw and decorate a paper bag and include a protein, a snack and a drink (Kids Meals, Inc can add a sandwich) for a child in need. Lunch bags can be dropped off at the address below.
Location: 330 Garden Oaks Blvd, Houston, TX 77018 from Monday – Friday, 9am-3pm

Meals on Wheels is a program within the Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston (a United Way agency) that delivers about 4,000 meals to home-bound seniors and disabled adults per week. Due to COVID-19, “Meals on Wheels is altering its delivery methods to ensure the safety of our seniors- delivering a week’s worth of frozen meals at a time to reduce contact, while phoning each senior regularly to check on them and provide social support”. In addition to the affects of COVID-19, staff is preparing for hurricane season (June 1st – November 30th) to provide emergency food. $14 can help support one senior with emergency food.
Location: 3303 Main St, Houston, TX 77002

The Beacon is a non-profit that helps the homeless community in Houston (helped 8,500+ individuals last year) by providing counseling, legal assistance, housing and meals. Due to COVID-19, hours of operations have been updated, but The Beacon continues to provide ‘Take-away meals’ seven days a week. With the help of volunteers, they are able to provide individuals with a Take-away meal which includes one hot meal and one sack lunch. Any donation can reach the organization’s mission of a better future for the members of this community.

Clemons Circle of Commerce Community Development Corporation is a 501c3 non-profit that invests in the future leaders of Houston. They provide summer camps to students, low-cost tax preparation to residents, and affordable activities for seniors. Their Black Tie Gala on January 14, 2023 is their largest fundraising event of the year! The gala will feature an exceptional performance by Will Fortune, the St. Andrew Youth and Young Adult Orchestra, more musical guests, delicious food and a great time. By attending, you can support their mission. Purchase your tickets on Eventbrite here.
